Start the journey to Kandy via Pinnawala and visit Elephant orphanage, which was originally founded to provide care and protection to the many orphaned elephants found in the jungles of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. The journey from Colombo to Pinnwala is about 90 km and will take approximately 2 ½ hours where you can have your breakfast while viewing the bathing Elephants. Tourists can observe the bathing elephants from the broad riverbank as the herd interacts socially, bathing and playing. The orphanage is open to the public daily, and all admission fees are used to look after the elephants. Visitors to the park can view the care and daily routine of the elephants, such as bottle feeding of elephant calves, feeding of all other elephants, and bathing in the Ma Oya (River). Leave for Kandy, it is one hour drive to get there. Kandy is one of the most scenic cities in Sri Lanka and lies in the midst of hills. It is the Capital of the Central Province. It is both an administrative and religious city. Kandy is the second largest city in the country and is very famous among tourist for three main reasons: It is home to the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic; Dalada Maligawa ), The Botanical Gardens ( Located in Peradeniya) and it always has a special place when it comes to festivities such as the Esala Perahara.Visit the Temple of Tooth Relic and drive around the kandy lake and bazaar. Kandy offers an exciting shopping experience with souvenirs ranging from precious stones, silk and handmade laces to stone and wooden carvings, continue to Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya, the finest of its kind in Asia, the largest of the botanical gardens of Sri Lanka. At about 5 pm we will start the return ward journey which takes 3 ½ hours to reach Colombo.
